The following table describes selected practice areas that are ranked by four leading ranking guides in the world and in Israel – two Israeli legal guides (BDI CODE and Dun’s 100) and two international legal guides (Chambers & Partners and Legal 500). The foreign guides relate only to the practice areas regarding Israeli law firms.
International ranking guides
The London-based Chambers & Partners (link: https://www.chambersandpartners.com/) guide has been operating for 27 years and ranks law firms in 185 jurisdictions by examining feedback from clients around the world, leading lawyers and data from law firms.
The ranking is divided into six levels (tiers), in with tier 1 being the best. In general, the guide ranks departments in law firms and individual lawyers rather than the law firms as a whole.
Some practice areas ranking in this guide are not available in some countries (e.g., some categories that are available in the United States ranking are not available in the Israeli one). This guide is prominent in the United States.
It should be noted that one of the main differences between Chambers and his nemesis – Legal 500 – is that Chambers & Partners has a unique personal rankings, in which individual partners at law firms are being ranked, in addition to the ‘Next Generation’ section, in which up-and-coming partners and being individually ranked.
The second international legal guides – also based in London – Legal 500 (link: https://www.legal500.com/) has been operating for 30 years and ranks law firms in about 100 jurisdictions by examining feedback from some 300,000 clients worldwide and from law firms.
The ranking is divided into several levels (Tiers), with Tier 1 being the best. The guide ranks both law firms and outstanding legal lawyers (Legal 500 Hall of Fame). Most users of this guide originate in Europe.
Israeli ranking Guides
The Israeli legal guide of Dun’s 100 (link- https://www.duns100.co.il/en) is an Israeli legal guide that has been operating for over 35 years and ranks the leading companies in Israel, including law firms.
This is done by examining the number of attorneys employed in each firm, along with examining feedback from clients, leading lawyers in the field and data from law firms.
The Israeli legal guide of BDI CODE (link – https://www.bdicode.co.il/en/) is an Israeli guide that has been operating for the past 14 years and ranks the leading companies in Israel, including law firms.
This is done by examining feedback from clients, leading lawyers in the field and data from law firms.
